Painting The Colours of The Air
Claude Monet spoke of wanting to “paint the colours of the air,” and I carry this idea into my work. Nature is central to my wellbeing and creative practice. I sketch, make colour notes, and photograph landscapes-not to copy them, but to capture their feeling: the expanse of sky, the bracing wind, the shimmer of light on sand.
These paintings were inspired by a wide, empty beach, where the moon’s tidal pull created a reflective surface, and colours danced across the sand. My painting process blends intention and discovery - I layer, apply paint and remove it, responding to unexpected discoveries, allowing the work to emerge. Letting the materials be themselves. It’s a dialogue between control and letting go, to capture fleeting moments and the magic of the natural world.
